Sunday Literary Lunch
by The Globeflower Agency

This weeks, Sunday literary lunch is hosted by American author and actress Donna Migliaccio. She has invited some fascinating authors to accompany her imaginary lunch.

Sunday Literary Lunch with Donna Migliaccio

Neil Gaiman - Creative Commons1) Name ten living authors, you would invite for Sunday lunch and why them?

Neil Gaiman, E. Annie Proulx, Erik Larson, Jonathan Safran Foer, Anne Lamott, George Saunders, Cormac McCarthy, Margaret Atwood, Monica Hesse, Alice Walker, and Kazuo Ishiguro.

It’s a varied list, to be sure, but each of these authors wrote a book (or in some cases, multiple books) which left an impression on my heart and mind. I admire all ten for one or more of these reasons: the splendor of their prose, the risks they take when writing, the strength of their voice, or simply because their stories are so good.

2) What would you cook and why?Crusty bread

I’d make lemon risotto with shrimp, a salad of spring greens and a loaf of crusty bread. I’d serve creme brulee for dessert. Bright flavors, lightness and simplicity in both the preparation and the eating would be very important – I wouldn’t want anything to weigh down the conversation, and I wouldn’t want to be stuck in the kitchen cooking while everyone else is talking!

3) What drinks would accompany the meal?

I’d serve a crisp Pinot Grigio with the meal (sparkling water for those who don’t do alcohol), and good coffee and tea with dessert.

Drinking wine

4) What games would you play?

Oh, dear – no games. I wouldn’t want anyone to feel they had to “perform” for their lunch. Although I’ll bet playing Scrabblewith this bunch would be an education!
